SKETCH. DESIGN. BUILD.

ABOUT

This website exists simply as a place to display my DIY projects. Aside from friends and family, I doubt many people will see it – and that's perfectly fine with me. I’m proud to have created something instead of just consuming content for once. Recording the work I've done on our family home over the past five years also helps preserve memories.

We moved into our current house in 2019. The previous owners had completed the roof and kitchen extensions, leaving the house in decent condition, but it still required decorating and updating. Initially, we planned to hire professionals, but everything changed in 2020 when our second daughter was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, putting renovations on hold. Despite the unfinished projects, we felt fortunate to have both a house and a garden to enjoy – a true blessing in those times. Although lockdowns and social distancing made the world feel strange, I look back on that period fondly.

Raising a young family is rewarding yet demanding, which makes an organized home extremely important. Before long, we needed to tackle the projects we'd put off. With finances tight and my strong urge to build things, I decided to take a career break so I could focus on home renovations, care for the children, and develop my writing, while my partner continued her career. Although it might seem odd to leave a secure job for unpaid projects, it was the only practical way to improve our home without waiting several years to save for professionals. We took the plunge, and I'm happy to say the house is now finished. There were challenges – managing both parenting and projects was tough – but ultimately, it was worth it.
