KITCHEN RENOVATION
Twenty-five years of use had taken its toll. The flooring was the worst of it — tired, worn and well past saving. A professional kitchen replacement would have cost a significant sum, so I took it on myself, with one condition: the family still needed to eat dinner in there every evening.
Working around a functioning kitchen throughout a three-month renovation added a layer of complexity that a clean-slate project does not have. Every task had to be sequenced carefully to keep the space usable. It was demanding — there were days when the progress felt slow and the disruption felt large — but the constraint also kept the work focused and purposeful.
The result is a kitchen the whole family uses and enjoys. That felt like the right measure of success.
